Thanks for visiting EMily Butler Photography!
I have an insatiable love for live music and a few years ago I became interested in photography. Shooting shows and events is one of my most favorite things. Approaching live music and photography simultaneously is a dream come true. I've been a music fan for a long time. In the late '80's I hopped in a van with some high school friends and followed the Grateful Dead around the country for a couple of summers. That experience made me fall in love with the potential magic that can happen on a live stage. The "magic" is hard to explain and generally it's pretty rare, and certainly not guaranteed. Sometimes the magic happens in an unexpected improvisational jam, or when a song evokes an emotion inside you, or it can happen when a special guest is invited on stage to collaborate or sometimes it's just when you can tell the performers are really loving what they are doing. When photographing live shows it isn't all about the hair swings, or high jumps, or throwing instruments in the air (although all that is fun too!); for me, it's about capturing the magic....that you can't explain, but you know it when it happens. My music tastes range from rock to bluegrass to funk and jazz but I still fall the hardest for the jamband world. Beyond the music realm, I enjoy photographing dancers, and other live events as well as models in portrait settings and exotic travel locations. This is where you can see my mind visually. I'm so glad you've stopped by, please visit again soon! Peace, Emily Read more about EMily Butler Photography in this VoyageATL interview:
